The shakedown cruise at SEACompression last weekend went VERY well – Hundreds of people plunked, strummed, drummed and banged on the Jam Table (and the Gong Rack, which I hung nearby).
The instruments suffered only a few minor casualties: I broke the D string tuning up the bass (fortunately Ted Brown Music had a spare) – and two percussion-rack instruments proved to be a bit vulnerable to aggressive drumming; The little xylophone shed a key when one of its mounting nails popped out, and the fish-shaped woodblock lost its nose – easily reglued.
Revelation: The bass was very hard to hear, thanks to the PA in the room next door bumping dubstep. But the other instruments sounded fine, and once the music stopped (during strike next morning) the bass filled the room beautifully.
Now to work on finding this crazy thing a regular or long-term home.
